Things To Know

Required Travel Documentation (Passports, Visas, other Documents)
All U.S. citizens will need a valid passport to enter a foreign country and return to the United States.
• It must be valid six months beyond your intended stay and have 1-2 blank pages remaining.
• Allow yourself sufficient time to have your application processed if you are applying for a new passport or renewing an expired passport. Visit www.travel.state.gov for more details.

In addition, all participants 17 years of age or younger, when traveling with a sole parent, should carry a notarized Permission letter to leave the country signed by the absent parent.

If you are not a U.S. citizen, please check with the Ecuadorian Embassy at www.ecuador.org , Guatemalan Embassy at www.guatemala-embassy.org , Costa Rican Embassy at www.costarica-embassy.org, or the Peruvian Embassy at www.peruvianembassy.us for information on documentation requirements.

Vaccinations
There are no required vaccinations, however we recommend that you consult with your physician, local health department or the CDC web site www.cdc.gov/travel for information on required and recommended immunizations for the country where you will be traveling.

Language
Spanish is the primary language of Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, & Peru. We will provide you with a list of useful phrases to practice before your trip. What a great opportunity to learn some Spanish and communicate with the kids you’ll be serving and our ministry partners.

What to Pack
Please limit your baggage to one piece of luggage per person plus one carry-on. With frequent security changes, we recommend that you check with your air carrier as well as the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) website www.tsa.gov for current restrictions.

Since your adventure includes outdoor activity and physically active volunteer work, attire for your adventure should be casual and comfortable, and you should bring at least one additional change of clothes per day.
