This excursion will take in Naples' best sites from the comfort of your coach. Leaving the port, your first view of the city takes you back to the 13th century with the Castle Nuovo, a grim and gloomy fortress that served as the residence of the kings of Anjou, Aragon, and the Spanish Viceroys. You will continue past the Piazza della Borsa, home to the elaborate Stock Exchange Building, and the Galleria Umberto I, lined with beautiful lamps and 19th-century buildings containing some of the most elegant shops and cafés in Naples. A stop will be made at the Piazza Plebiscito; the most monumental and harmonious square in the city, to view the vast 17th-century Royal Palace, San Carlo Opera House and the Church of St. Francis. At Posillipo Hill, you'll have time for photographs and an excellent panoramic view of the city. You will then enjoy refreshments at a local Neapolitan Café. On your return to the ship, you'll pass by Mergellina and the world famous Castle of the Egg in Santa Lucia.
Note: This tour is recommended to passengers with walking difficulties; however, guests must be able to walk approximately 50 yards over even surfaces with 3 - 5 steps at the café. Tour itinerary may change but all mentioned sites will be covered. Should you visit fall on a Saturday, Sunday or local holiday, your coach may not be allowed to drive through Piazza Plebiscito due to local traffic regulations. |
