Your tour departs from the port, passing by the Columbus Monument in order to reach the Catalunya Square, considered the heart of the city. From there, you will continue a panoramic drive along Passeig de Gràcia, the best known boulevard in town, where your guide will point out one of the masterpieces of Gaudi's architecture: the Casa Milà or known by Barcelonans "La Pedrera House" and Casa Batlló. Reaching Diagonal Avenue, you will begin your drive outside the city to Montserrat, a peculiar rocky mountain range that is the site of the monastery where people come to worship "La Moreneta," the black Madonna who is the patron-virgin of Catalonia. The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century and is located in a natural park 60 km to the west of Barcelona. Besides visiting the Benedictine Abbey Monastery, you will admire the Patron of Catalonia, Saint Mary of Montserrat who is worshipped at the shrine in the Monastery. The Benedictine community, now numbering some eighty monks, has served the shrine for almost a thousand years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, to working and to welcoming pilgrims, making the site a place for dialogue, prayer, and culture. During your visit to Montserrat, you will have the option to ride the funicular of San Juan (at own expense) that travels an additional panoramic viewpoint or you can view the L'Espai audiovisual "MONTSERRAT PORTES ENDINS" and taste the typical liquors of Montserrat. Conclude your visit and return to the port via the same route.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1 mile over even cobblestone surfaces with numerous inclines and 45 - 50 steps. Walking at Montserrat is at your own discretion. Time permitting; guests will have approximately 25 minutes for shopping and browsing. Respectful attire that covers shoulders and knees should be worn in order to enter the church. The Boy's Choir is not in attendance during the last week of June through August due to annual holidays. The drive between Barcelona and Montserrat is approximately 1.5 hours each way, dependent upon traffic conditions.
